aphorisms

an aphorism is a term used to describe a principle expressed tersely in a few telling words or any general truth conveyed in a short and pithy sentence, in such a way that when once heard it is unlikely to pass from memory.

pithy is a cool word.

As you ramble on through life, brother, whatever be your goal: keep your eyes upon the donut, and not upon the hole! (???)
- Murray Banks

Spel chekers, hoo neeeds em (you still got the message right?)
- Alan James Bean

next year i'm doing gulliver's travels and the importance of being earnest (by Oscar Wilde who is famous for his aphorisms) for literature. they are such strange books. i thought gulliver's travels was a kiddy book cos i read it when i was young but obviously that was the super abridged version. this unabridged one has funny words with no vowels in them!! and places like lilliput (did i spell it correctly?) woot?
